What's-yer-name [Me]

My recent posts have been rather darker in tone. And that's not because I've been in a bad spot in my life, but rather because things are going so well, and that gives me the security to explore the 'bad stuff'. So congrats for slogging through the dark bits, and I'll be more lighthearted today.

I think many people have had the experience, especially as kids, of having a relative or teacher  mix their name up with other kids' names. In my family, my two (male) cousins and I spent so much time together that my Granny just called us all by one mashed up name, MartyChrisBrad. Even today, she'll call me by my mother's name, or my daughter's. And she's not the only one.

It happens within the system, or systems, too. Remember, there are three multiples our house. You've met mine through this blog, including Stephanie. Boss has several as well, including Rachel and Sarah. And my metamour has several, including Fern. These are the pertinent folks for this story.

Honestly, I can't remember what the subject was that we were talking about, but just off-handedly, he suggested that something might interest Stephanie. And I froze for a minute. Who is this Stephanie he was talking about? First I pictured Rachel, then Sarah, or at least the mental visual I have for them. I couldn't think of a Stephanie in his system. Then it occurred to me - Oh, she lives in my head, not his. Then I made the connection, and went on with the conversation.

But it was weird, having no connection to that name when it was spoken. At least for a moment. Usually, if I'm talking to someone and they mention Kiara, she 'perks up' her attention and listens to the conversation to see if she should come out or not. Or at least, I will give her a 'mental nudge' to pay attention. But it was like Stephanie didn't even live in there, at that moment.

I told Boss about it, and he laughed. Because just a little while after that, we were snuggling up, and he almost asked me if Fern could come out front to snuggle with him. That would be pretty hard, considering she lived in the head of my metamour, and she wasn't even in the room...

Poly-fannish [Me]

This Saturday, I was watching Les Miserables on YouTube when Boss finally got up. He always sleeps later than I do, and my metamour is on no particular schedule. Between drugs, animals, and pain, she may sleep all day and be up all night, or the reverse, or nap frequently. So when I get up, I'm on my own for some hours, often, on weekends.

Anyway, I was watching Les Mis and enjoying the singing. I am highly anticipating the movie coming for Christmas. When Boss got up, he teased me about loving it so much. After all, I'm an avowed Phantom of the Opera fan. And I quipped back at him that I can love several Broadway shows equally without taking away from my love of Phantom. I am poly-fannish.

He laughed at me and suggested I should write about that as a great way to explain to people how I can love several people at the same time without loving any one less. It's a good analogy.

Of course, there are other great analogies. My favorite is that of a parent loving several children. Just because you love your son, does that mean you love your daughter less? What's your favorite poly analogy?

We Amuse Ourself [Me]

from youmightbeamultipleif:
At first, when the diagnoses of DID came into play, I was angry that there were other people there and I just wanted them gone. Then after a while, I realized how much they'd done for me, what they've given and given up. I realized that theirs were the voices I would hear cheering me on when no one else in the whole world knew I needed it.

Oh, doesn't that just say it. My alters are my best friends. They are like those buddies who come over to hang out and never go home. And sometimes you wish they would go home, but then you just go hide in your room for a while. And they take care of things, take care of themselves. And when you miss them and come back out, there they are, happy to see you and include you in whatever they are doing.

And then she recounts an argument over the purchase of a coffee pot when she accidentally bought the wrong (cheaper) one:

SO, the reasoning began, "Well you don't drink much coffee at home anyway since there's an unlimited pot at the office and it's way cheaper - this one will do" ANother said, "NO, Don't settle, get the one you want. This one is not it, get off your lazy a** and do it, get the one you really wanted in the first place. " Another, "Who cares? It's a coffee pot" Another, "Hello?!? Coffee is serious business, we can't have just ANY coffee pot, it should be the right one and it should match the rest of the appliances." Another, "You're too lazy to get it, just be happy with what you got" Another, "You shouldn't have spent the money, you should bring it back, what about the curtains?"Another, "Yes I agree"Another, "Coffee?? icky, why would anyone wanna drink that stuff?" Another, "Mmmmm I want coffee now!"and on and on and on it went - sometimes I just have to giggle at everyone, they make me laugh.
It's funny because it's true. Everyone has an opinion. And expresses it. And if I remember to decide to find it entertaining, it really really is.

MPD Joke! [Sam]

We're reading blogs again - and here's a joke. Hey, I think it's funny...

Q:     How many alters does it take to change a light bulb?
A:     As many as are aware the light bulb is being changed!  One to change the bulb, one to change it back, three to argue over whether they want it light or dark, one to throw the light bulb against the wall to hear it crash, one to clean up the mess, one to go shopping for new bulbs and come home with stockings, [licorish], Disney movies, popcorn and masking tape, one to cry about the poor smashed light bulb, one to comfort her, one more to... You get the picture.  ;)

And one from another blog I'm reading too:

Patient: "Doctor, doctor, I have split personalities."
Doctor: "Well you'd better both sit down then."

Psyche Out the Psycho (Me)

I thought I caught some lost time again this weekend. I was packing to head off for the evening to visit some friends, and anticipating the arrival of my ride - someone we all are pretty comfortable with. We slipped messily around as to who was out for a while, so the memories are fuzzy.

The next time I was fully in control, I was sitting with that friend, riding in his car. No big deal, until I looked at his clock, and it showed 11:47. He was picking me up at 4:30 in the afternoon. And it was currently daylight. Which meant it was either the next morning, or the day after that. And that's a whole lot of time for me to miss at once.

I sat very still for a while, looking for clues. The clothes I was wearing seemed to be the ones I had decided to wear out for the evening; I couldn't remember if what he had on was the same as when he picked me up. An internal query didn't answer anything. Finally I just picked up my phone to confirm the time.

And it said 5:30pm. His car's clock was wrong.

I reset the clock for him.

Well, We Thought It Was Funny (Me)

Yes, my daughter is a cool person. Still haven't discussed the multiple personality situation with her, and I'm thinking I probably won't at this point. It just doesn't appear to be necessary. However, if it comes up, I'm less worried about how she'll take it.

So we (internally) had a good laugh the other day I want to share. My daughter, my guy, and I all went to the sub shop for sandwiches. The kid ordered first, then ran to the bathroom while hers was being made. My guy ordered two sandwiches - different bread, different meat, different toppings - and I ordered my usual. As the toppings are being put on all four sandwiches, my daughter comes back from the bathroom.

I could see her counting sandwiches - one, two, three, four - and noting that they were four different sandwiches - for the three of us. Then she looks questioningly at me and asks, "Are we getting a sandwich for someone else?"

Before I can answer, my guy pipes up with, "No, the extra one is for my multiple personality."

And without missing a beat, she couters with, "Oh, well tell Juan I said hello."

Beat. Beat. I can almost audibly hear the conversation inside my head - /Did you hear what he said? And what she said?/ And I/we burst out laughing in the sub shop. My daughter was halfway to the door by the time the guffaw hit. And my guy was just looking at me with an evil grin, waiting to see if I would react.

So, yeah, we thought it was funny. I've told the story to a few other people who thought it mildly amusing at best. But trust me, it was hilarious.
